The process burning of tobacco produces a form of smoke that has more than 4,000 chemicals and substances in it. All of these are made up of gases and particles that are able to be inhaled and then absorbed into the body. Many of these found chemicals are very dangerous and not only for the one smoking the tobacco but also for those people in the surrounding area of the smoker.

Over 50 carcinogenic substances have been found in tobacco smoke by The International Cancer Investigation Agency. There are eleven of these substances that have been proven to be a cause of cancer in humans, seven substances that probably are the cause of cancer and 49 of the substances that are the cause of cancer in animals but this has yet to be found true in humans.

Just recently, many new patents have been granted for what is called the ‘Electronic Cigarette’, also referred to as the smokeless cigarette or the e-cigarette. This type of cigarette is not known to contain any agents that cause cancer like those that are found in the traditional tobacco cigarette. This new smokeless cigarette device that allows smoking in many places where it is prohibited.

The smokeless cigarette is a small device that is powered by batteries but looks, feels and tastes just the same as a regular cigarette. As you inhale, a flow censor is activated and releases vapor that is water based; this is what you inhale. It is known for nicotine to have some health risks, but studies have found have no cancer causing toxins in electronic cigarettes. It is the act of burning and inhaling the tobacco that is linked to the cancer risks with cigarette smoking.

The electronic cigarette is not a smoking cessation product but because it does come in nicotine strengths of none, light, medium and full does suggest that it is a benefit to people trying to stop smoking. This type of cigarette has become very popular with those who smoke and want to keep smoking but would like to do so where smoking is usually prohibited such as the work place, restaurants, bars and even airports. Others are choosing this smokeless cigarette because there are no cancer causing toxins with Electronic Cigarettes.
